ScanAI Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 27, 2026 · Effective: April 27, 2026
Overview
ScanAI (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a document-scanning application for iOS developed and operated by HK Ventures. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
Information We Collect
We collect two categories of information:
Information you provide directly:
- Scanned documents: Images captured via your device camera or imported from your photo library. These are stored locally on your device only.
- Document names: Names you assign to documents, or names automatically suggested by on-device AI based on document content.
Information collected automatically:
- Purchase and subscription data: If you subscribe to ScanAI Pro, our payment processor (RevenueCat) collects transaction details necessary to validate your subscription. We receive only your subscription status — not full payment card details.
- Crash and diagnostic data: If you opt in via iOS Settings, Apple may share anonymized crash reports with us to help us fix bugs.
Information we do NOT collect:
How We Use Your Information
- To provide core app features: Scanning, PDF generation, OCR text extraction, document organization, and AI-powered naming and summarization — all performed on-device.
- To manage your subscription: We use RevenueCat to verify your ScanAI Pro entitlement so that Pro features are correctly unlocked on your device.
- To improve the app: Anonymized crash data (if opted in via iOS) helps us identify and fix bugs.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
On-Device AI Processing
ScanAI uses Apple Foundation Models (iOS 18.4+) for intelligent document naming and AI-powered summaries. This AI processing runs entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device models.
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is similarly performed on-device using Apple’s Vision framework.
Third-Party Services
ScanAI integrates with the following third-party service:
RevenueCat (subscription management)
- Purpose: Validates and manages ScanAI Pro subscriptions via Apple’s App Store.
- Data shared: An anonymous app user ID and your App Store receipt for subscription verification.
- RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple’s privacy practices govern payment and transaction data. We do not receive your full payment details.
Device Permissions
ScanAI requests the following iOS permissions:
- Camera: Required to scan physical documents. Camera feed is used only for scanning and is not recorded, stored remotely, or transmitted.
- Photo Library: Required only if you choose to import images from your photo library. We access only the photos you explicitly select.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
Data Storage & Retention
All your documents, PDFs, and extracted text are stored locally on your device using iOS’s secure file system and SwiftData. This data is included in your device’s standard iCloud Backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings (this is handled by Apple, not by us).
Your data persists until you delete individual documents within the app, or until you delete the app entirely. Deleting the app removes all locally stored documents and settings.
We do not retain copies of your documents on any server.
Children’s Privacy
ScanAI is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will promptly delete such information.
Your Rights & Choices
Because your data lives on your device, you have full control:
- Access & export: All your documents are accessible directly within the app and can be shared or exported at any time as PDFs.
- Deletion: Delete any document from within the app, or delete the entire app to remove all data.
- Permission withdrawal: Revoke Camera or Photo Library access at any time via iOS Settings.
- Subscription management: Manage or cancel your ScanAI Pro subscription via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or through the app’s Settings screen.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, rectify, or erase personal data held about you. Because ScanAI stores data only on your device, you can exercise these rights directly. For any data processed by RevenueCat (subscription records), contact us and we will assist.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA. ScanAI does not sell personal information.
Security
Your documents are stored using iOS’s sandboxed, encrypted file system. We rely on the security guarantees of the iOS platform. No data is transmitted from the app to our servers, which eliminates a large class of network-based security risks.
For subscription-related data, RevenueCat employs industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit and at rest.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice. Your continued use of ScanAI after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
